Are there angels among us?
"We are each of us angels with only one wing. And we can only fly embracing each other." -- Luciano De Crescenzo
I first read these words when I was reading Leo Buscaglia's book, "Loving Each Other." The words leaped from the book with such force that I was startled. I stopped and read it again...and again. The word angel has always been associated with supernatural beings that this was utterly a new way of thinking.
You? Me? The baker who lives across the street? The teacher in school? The plumber who always charges me more? How about that girl with the mean scowl? Are they 'angels' too? You got to be kidding!
Don't tell me that the people around us are angels among us? Huh?
This new awareness seemed to penetrate my consciousness. Soon I found myself looking at people and events with wide eyed wonder. I began playing a game with God. "Are you going to send me an angel today?"
I can hear God answer with a huge grin, "You bet!"
"Okay," I beamed back, curious and excited.
There are angels everywhere. There are angels where I am right now. There are angels wherever I go. There are angels among us! If you could hear my mind talk, this is what it was saying.
Angels Comfort You
I remember once doing grocery with a heavy heart. When I reached the meat section, I saw a mom and a boy pushing the cart in front of me. Suddenly, the boy turned. He was a "special" child. He glanced up and smiled endearingly. I smiled lamely for I wasn't really in the mood to interact with anyone. But then, he suddenly broke free from his mom. His mom tried to grab his arm. He wouldn't be deterred. He ran to me and hugged me, his hand patting my back. By this time, his mom had reached us, she was all apologies. I reassured her, it was alright. The boy finally allowed his mom to guide him back.
When I turned away from them, a tear escaped my eye. I could feel God whispering to me softly, "You just met your angel today."
Angels Guide You
I know all of us go through periods in our lives when we seek for guidance. Most especially during times when we need to make certain life changing decisions or needing to choose a certain path. My best friend and I were struggling with the responsibilities of running a preschool and we were on the verge of giving up. As I sat on a table distributing leaflets before a prayer gathering, one of the brothers in the community sat beside me. He asked how I was and we got into the discussion of running a business.
Then after hearing our struggles and problems, he asked something, "How many years have you been running the school?
"Around seven years," I replied. This conversation happened three years ago.
"How many students do you have per year?"
"Fifty to a hundred." I answered, not understanding where the conversation was going.
"Let's just say it's fifty. Fifty times seven, that's 350. Do you know you have touched the lives of three hundred fifty children all these years; don't you think that's something?"
I was struck dumb. He had given me something to think about. When I reached home, I called my best friend and I related to her our conversation. When I finished, we were both crying. I guess we had forgotten. We were so busy dealing with the problems we had forgotten to count our blessings.
When I placed the phone down, I could feel God whispering to me softly, "You just met your angel today."
Angels Help You
As a dental student, I was having "nightmares" in dental school. The studying I could handle but I dreaded each time I had to work on a patient. And sometimes I found myself postponing any dental work. Oh but I was beautifully surrounded by several angels who were very willing to help me. Two actually offered their teeth for me to work on. I bet you would never dare volunteer if you knew I would be a nervous wreck working on your teeth. I still chuckle at the thought of my exboyfriend and the very dear girl friend still brandishing my "work of art" in their smiles. I also found a couple of teachers who actually took the time to mentor me.
After six long years of hard work in college, I finally stretched my hand to receive my diploma along with my classmates. I hear God chuckling as he whispers, "You just met your angels today."
Angels Inspire You
A five-year-old child has decided to stay under the table. She refused to come out and study. My friend, Stella, was tutoring her. I have seen her work with kids for a long time now. This was particularly a difficult case.
After work, we decide to talk for a bit before going home. "Do you want to give up this tutor thing? I can see how stressed you have become."
She tells me all about her student and the beauty she sees inside. "I don't want to give up on her. You know what, I just believe in her. I really do. If she can just stop thinking she can't do it, I know she will pull through."
I have seen many times how her belief has helped many of the kids finally come out of their shells and shine. I know because she was done that to me too. Read my hub The Lesson from the Big Ugly Bear. God softly whispers, "You just met your angel today."
Angels Teach You
I still could picture this tall, skinny balding guy who was an alcoholic. He was very intelligent and smart but due to his addiction, he was always getting fired from any job he went into. Those around him were feeling rather helpless with his situation. One minute they would find themselves helping him and the next they would be throwing him out most esp. when he was drunk.
One time I remember he approached my dad and asked for money. He said he was leaving on a boat. My dad, who normally refused to give him money for fear that he was going to buy booze, gave him some. Two weeks later, dad received a picture of him selling pots and pans in another city with a short note saying "Uncle Bob, thank you for your kindness." That day, beyond his addiction, I saw his heart.
Several months passed before he came back. And then every one thought he had finally changed. Sadly, he went back to drinking.
I recall once we had this short talk. I normally would just pass by and ignore him particularly if he smells of alcohol. But that day, I stopped and looked at him, really looked at him. We talked for a bit until I asked him quietly why he could not stop drinking. He bowed his head and just when I thought he wouldn't answer, he softly answered, "Please don't get mad at me."
He passed away years later due to kidney failure. Whenever I think of him, I believe we were all taught in some way or the other--perhaps about kindness or tolerance or compassion. Sometimes I would reflect, 'could we have done something more?' God softly whispers to me, "You just met your angel today."
Angels Love You
I believe one of life's precious gifts is to have angels who truly love you. They come in many forms. And they love in different ways. Yet you know their presence in your life has led to your transformation and most of all, led you gently back to yourself.
One of these angels comes by the name of Daisy. She has seen me scared, fearful, and doubtful. She has been witness to my panic attacks. She has seen me break down when I could no longer be brave and strong. She has seen my monstrous side when I would rather be stubborn and argumentative. If she were not my angel, I believe she would have run away from me.
But she chose to stay. She chose to focus on the parts of me that is good, kind, compassionate and pure. She gives me enough room to grow, to make mistakes, to explore. She constantly challenges me while giving me enough support and encouragement so I could take those faltering steps of finding and loving myself.
Last night, we were discussing many things particularly about insecurities when she asked me. "I know you know God loves you. But sometimes you just can't seem to see how God sees you. Tell me, if God is looking at you right now, how would He see you?"
I refused to answer, feeling suddenly vulnerable.
"Okay, take your time."
I could feel my eyes starting to water. I started to speak, "I think if God is looking at me right now, He would see me as someone who has a wonderful heart." My answer was barely a whisper because I was sobbing. "And I know he has trained me all these years to have a good heart because that is what I would want to have...to be."
She was crying too as she gave me a bear hug. "Yes, you are that...and more." Dayzeebee was rejoicing because she knows that took a lot out of me to admit that.
I have allowed myself to be stripped of masks and pretensions. I can do that because I know I am loved for who I am and who I can become. And in that warmth, I can allow myself to soar. I could hear God whispering softly, "You have met your angel today."
Angels are Reflections of God's Love
Yes, we all are. In the deepest core of our beings, we are that which is love. As I am finishing this hub, hundreds of memories seem to come out reminding me of the countless people--angels among us really-- who have come to comfort, to inspire, to guide, to help, to encourage, to lift me up, to make me laugh, to teach me, to love and so much more.
Yes, we are all angels with one wing, and we are flying because we have each other.

dayzeebee, I went home last night with huge eye bags after all the crying. I value so much that you could see all the goodness within me...and that has inspired me to keep on...moving forward and onward. Thank you for all the love that has helped me heal more and more. It's getting late here and I am very tired. I was getting ready to close down for the night while thinking of the things I still had to do before bed. Ripplemaker this is truly an inspirational hub. We often don't stop and contemplate all the good things in life. we are all touched by angels all the time. But we perhaps are so busy being angry or hurt or wrapped up in our own problems that we just don't notice the angels around us ready to help, encourage or just give us a smile. i particularly love it when a small child (a stranger) just gives that fleeting little shy smile which you can take with you in your heart for a while. or that old bag lady shuffling along just gives that twinkly wink which says i am more than you see here. Thanks for helping us see our angels.

My goodness, I had tears because you speak with such depth and love. I remember years ago when I was going through a very difficult time, and while I was waiting for the train during rush hour to go home, a man came up to me and gave me a rose; he was not trying to pick me up as he was with his girlfriend, he simply wanted to give me that rose, which lifted me up and made my eyes wet. He was my angel that day.

Beautiful. I too believe that angels are around us daily, IF we will but take notice. We too, need to consider our own power "as" angels to those around us - and understand our responsibility in life - to be such. Serving others is what brings the greatest joy in our lives and the lives of those we come in contact with.

My husband came home from work Friday and told me a story. He told me lately he has been praying to God and thanking him for all the blessings in his life. He was at work on a break when a tall man came up to him and sat down and started talking with him. He said his name was Kim and he was from Nashville. He asked him some things about him and also asked what his hopes and dreams are. My hubby said, well, my life has been good and I am actually pretty content and the man said, that's great! He also told my hubby that he seems like a good guy. It came time for my hubby to go back to work and the guy all of a sudden said to him, I'd like you to know you were visited by an angel this morning and then squeezed his hand and left and disappeared into the crowd. My hubby is still in shock about it. I believe it was an angel and he was just letting him know things are okay.
Thanks, ripplemaker, for affirming my concept of angels. Yes, they are not the abstract 2-winged beings that we cannot touch and see. They are exactly what you talked about in your hub. But fragile as we are, sometimes, we forget that we are in a world of angels.Reading your hub reconnects me to the angelic qualities of people who do things for us in joy and in pain. The most important thing to ask, after reading your article: Have I been an angel to others lately? If not, what's stopping me from being one?

ripplemaker, I have been thinking about gaurdian angels lately (just because my son must have at least a dozen of them), but there are so many kinds have angels personified in unique individuals we come in contact with. And sometimes we fail to recognize the angels among us until many years later. Thanks for bringing this important idea to mind. Julie

Precious hub Ripplemaker...reading about the little boy in the grocery store reminded me of a time back in Hawaii when my youngest son was a baby. We stopped in to visit a friend of mine who was a big sister to me in the Lord and always busy about planning the next outreach to reach others with Jesus' love. Upon greeting her, I told my son to give auntie butterfly kisses and he batted his eyelashes against her cheek...she'd never heard of or experienced such a thing before and said she felt that she'd just been kissed by God, through my son and was blessed by that.
I know you must feel this more than I, but I have to say it anyway, you sure have a beautiful friend in Ms Dayzee....

funny, I had a very similar experience some years ago. I was feeling very sad
and depressed. I went to the checkout line in a local supermarket and there
was the most beautiful little boy sitting in his mother's basket. He smiled
and it lit up the room. He kept saying "I love you". The mother, unlike the
mother in your situation was startled. She said "you don't love her,
you don't even know her". But the little boy just kept smiling and said
"I love you".
The mother couldn't have known how much that little boy's words
comforted my bruised and heavy heart.
I felt my heavenly Father speaking through him and he was my little angel that day.
I'll never forget him.

Dear Ripplemaker, In joining my fan club, THAT was an act of an "angel in action"... because I have now been introduced to your writing and thoughts. Just reading your profile made me know that we would be friends. I chose this article to read of yours first.......and it was an excellent choice! A friend of mine just lost her mother; another friend's father has just undergone surgery and he was not in the best of health prior to needing that; another is going through a trying time at work, etc. All of them NEED this article and I plan to forward it to them. What a beautiful piece you wrote from your heart, just wonderful! Going through spiritual training is tough on the ego at first just like you talk about until it starts to make sense to us. After a while we get used to it and it becomes a JOY as we learn the way of spiritual obedience is actually freedom not enslavement! It's like our cultural conditioning is the dirt we have to scrape off to reveal the stunning spirit hiding underneath that was there all along. Sounds like you have a terrific mentor with whom you are simpatico, very lucky indeed. Many mentors are not so pleasant but effective angels nonetheless. You make her proud I'm sure of that!

You are truly one of the chosen. What a transformation, from dentist to teacher and angel. Actually the angel was there underneath all along. You are so fortunate to have a close friend to confide in. I had two best friends as an adult. One was in the service with me. He came out with a wounded spirit; turned away from spiritual values and created a perfect life around "things." including his little wifey. Well, the other friend waited until I was out of town, then drove his car into a pole. It has been over 20 years now. I decided if I can't get over it, then I'll try to understand and pray for him and all who lost his quirky way of looking at life, that laugh, his being able to see straight through the absurdities we endure to survive. I want to reach out and somehow pull him back and say no, no, you made a mistake, It is I who should have gone.

Wow!! What an incredible message!! Yes....we all need to reach out and touch someone's lives daily. I know for a fact that angels have reached out to my husband as well as myself on several occasions. The latest being on the highway....an old man walking by the side of the road, dirty, grungy, but nonetheless my husband felt compelled to pull over and give him a ride. Upon doing so....he took this old man to the nearest gas station, whereupon he proceeded to drop him off upon his request. When my husband turned around to say something to this man....he had already disappeared.
I believe we are given many test throughout our lives, just to see if we pass, or how compassionate we are. This incident....by my observation was a test.

There are some people who always find what wrong with a a persons character and I think that is because they are always looking. They see the flaws and miss the person, or should I say the angel.
Reading this all I could think was that what is important is to see the soul in people. Look for the good — and keep looking until it emerges. You never know who or where that angel is . .but we are all angels in some way arent we? Thanks for this hub . . great read to start my day:)

ripplemaker, we are all created by God as a spirit, or yes as an angel. God then chooses to send us to earth to become a spirit in a human body to live, where we learn God's rules and expectations as we serve God at God's request, for however long. When we have finished serving God in our duties here on earth, our physical bodies die, and we revert back to our spirit, or angelic lives to continue serving God our creator. This is the way I see it, as I saw this in a spiritual revelation in a dream as I slept one night.

I happened upon this page and inspired by the people who are aware of the angels surrounding us on a daily basis, if only we all could see them...
All you have to do is ask God, and you will receive...
When my daughter was born, only the week after, I woke up for her 3:00A.M. feeding, and hovering before me at the end of the bed was a man angel... He had big, beautiful wings that looked like a birds covered with feathers. He was so illuminating, bright with a white robe with a gold rope belt at his waist. I was both, scared and amazed! I put the covers over my head and said the "Lords Prayer" three times before I would look out to see if he was still there!!! He was still there, and I thought to my self, "why me?" What have I ever done to get to see an angel? Me a sinner, I felt so unworthy... Then, without moving his lips he told me...
"It doesn't matter how much you have sinned but how much love you have in your heart..." I will always be grateful for my angel. Just ask and you will receive...

We are faced with a lot of questions ever day. The moment one wakes up, it's a little ponderous to wonder what the day will offer or of why life goes on. Truly, there are many mysteries that comes our way. There are absolutely angels among us. :)
I met an angel today - her name is Ripplemaker. She is glorious, sweet and kind, sprinkling her angel dust throughout all of us here in hubland. You have opened a new door for me with your life-altering hub nuggets (to borrow from HP) and I am feeling more peace now as I am able to accept the passing of my beautiful son.
If not for hubpages and angels like you, I am not sure I would have made it through the most difficult challenge to put a mother through - the loss of a child.

What a lovely hub, Ripplemaker! My daughter is often my "angel of the day" for me...and so is my husband. I'm so grateful. I also have begun attending a Unitarian church with a bunch of loving new girlfriends to spend time with...who are often my "angels of the day."

This is beautiful. I absolutely love it and I would love to share my story with you. It all started eight years ago.
I can still remember the pure happiness that filled me as the Pastor of my church dipped me into the lake baptizing me and making me a true Methodist. But that all changed the next day. I was awoken by a call at three am in the morning. I knew something was wrong I could feel it in my bones. As I picked up the phone I heard my fathers voice. It was strained, I could hear the pain in his voice. My brother in law was dead. He had killed himself. My sister and niece and nephews where ok. My sister had gotten them to the neighbors when they started to fight. But when she came back he was gone. Me and my brother in law where as close as if he was born my brother. Me and my father and mother traveled to KY for the funeral. I thought things couldn't get worse. But I would so find out that I was so wrong. A week later I returned home and went to work. I noticed my best friend was missing. As I asked around they told me she had bean killed in a car wreck two days ago. The pain I was already in grew ten times stronger. I felt like someone had stabbed a knife into my heart than ripped it out. I couldn't believe this. Why her why now? I asked my self the same questions I had asked myself a million times already for my brother in law. I refused to go to church for almost two months. I'm ashamed to admit that I was angry with god and at the time I hated him so much. I hid everything berried deep inside what was left of my heart when I was around friends and family. As far as they knew I was ok and I would be ok. During this time I thought of killing myself several times. But I just couldn't put my family through that again. Two months later a friend from church came over. She talked me into going to church that Sunday. When I got there the whole church was there. They all greeted me and hugged me and told me that god loved me. That day I realized I was wrong. I broke down in the middle of church and everyone was there for me. Though's people are no longer strangers and acquaintance. They are now my family. My church Family. I love them all as much as I would a brother or sister. That day I met my angels. I am constantly surrounded by them. I don't know where I would be if I didn't have each and every one of them.
As I posted this I cried so hard I actually had to stop a few times. This is the first time I have ever told my story. Since than I have lost three grandpas, two grandmas, a cousin I was very close to and a few other friends. But each time my Angels where there for me.
Angelsheart, I thank you deeply for emailing me and for posting your story here on this hub. I feel you through your words, your pain, your victory, your realizations. How could I not but feel goosebumps all over when I feel God's love through our earthly angels.
You are not alone. Many of us, including me, have walked through the valleys of sorrow and confusion and have questioned, have felt anger, have resented God. Yet in His Mercy, Her Grace, His Compassion, Her Tender Love, the Source of All That Is continues to love purely and unconditionally. And those who experience this cannot help but shed tears of deep joy.

I am very interested in angels, everything about them except for guiding us is unknown. There's a lot of story that can prove that angels are real. Like the stories above, i believe that there's an angel's presence.
My tears start falling while i reading the last part of angelsheart story. i'm so inspired. After a great heart breaks and depression, she found out her real angels hiding in her church family. I do believe, angels are always beside us, not just to protect us but guiding us to see and to feel and to believe in God.
