Let's go to the beach. Don't forget your beach accessories!

The beach was the place to go whenever I went home for summer vacations when I was a little girl. The funny thing was that I still could remember that in the province we never wore bathing suits. Shorts and t-shirts (don’t gasp) were our swimwear. It was only when I was living in the big city that I learned to use a bathing suit. And thus, the introduction to all the other beach accessories available. The beach accessories included beach wraps or sarong, sunglasses, beach hats, towels or blankets, beach bags and flip flops to match. It was such a complicated thing for a country girl like me. But then again, somewhere along the way, we learned much living in the colorful city life.

Beach Wrap: Sarong or Pareos

One of the beach accessories that I grew to love was the beach wrap. This fashionable swimwear accessory often called as the sarong or pareos are large pieces of fabric made of cotton or rayon or other sheer fabrics. What drew me to them were the prints that could be floral (orchids, hibiscus, and other flower design); or patterns that came in bold colors, tie-dye styles; some are scenery of the beach or the sunset and many more.

I have several sarongs—smaller pieces used as a wrap around skirt to bigger pieces that I could use as a dress. Whenever we have themed parties like the Hawaiian luau, the sarong comes in handy. I also love giving sarongs as a birthday present.

Enjoy these Sarongs!

Sunglasses and Sunscreen

When it comes to health, my dad who is the health buff would never cease to remind us to protect ourselves against too much sun. You could also use your sarong as a shawl to protect your shoulders or upper body.

Never forget to bring your sunscreen. That is one beach accessory that is a must have. I don't know about you but I don't like having a sunburn. That is one ouchy ouch experience.

Coupled with sunscreen are of course, the sunglasses. The glare of the sun sometimes would give me a huge headache. To prevent that, better use sunglasses.

Now there are a lot of cheap sunglasses around for fashion purposes. But I propose you invest in a good brand with uv protection lenses. I’ve discovered the cheap sunglasses hurt my vision in the long run.

Beach Towels and Beach Blankets

Going back to my childhood days, I would remember that we would just bring with us the towels we use to dry ourselves at home. It amused me so much to discover that there are beach towels that were oversized than the ordinary blankets. And there were so many beautiful colors and designs available too. So aside from toweling ourselves dry, I also discovered that other people use these beach towels or blankets to sit or lie on. I laughed again. I could imagine my dad prohibiting us from doing that so the towels will not get dirty.

I'm guilty! When my dad is not around; I would spread the beach towel or beach blanket and lie contentedly on the beach. Sssh, that is just our little secret okay? Don’t tell my dad.

Beach Bags

You can’t possibly go to the beach without a bag of sort to put all your things and beach accessories.  Okay let me see.  Well, we use to just bring any bag that we could find in the house like the promotional bags given during Christmas.  Later on, we girls fell in love with the different beach bag or totes.  I even remember selling canvas totes that had cute designs.  The most important thing to consider, aside from the design or type of material that is being used, is the size of your beach bag.  It should be large enough to put all your beach accessories.

Beach Hats

Personally, I don’t like wearing hats to the beach. In fact, even if I end up bringing a hat, I recall never wearing it. So I stopped bringing one to the beach.

But for protection against too much sun, it could come in really handy. There are many hats available and you can choose what type of hat you would like to wear.

Flip Flops and Sandals

From the head to the body, now we move on to our feet. This is one of the best things I like to do--choosing a flip flop or sandals and not having to wear closed shoes or high heels for the day. It just feels so darn comfortable. Flip flops are my favorites! What’s yours?

Beach Chairs

In the beach in the province, we normally have cottages so if we wanted to rest, we would sleep—sitting up!  Ok, maybe recline a bit on the cottage seat. I couldn’t recall ever bringing beach chairs. Later on I understood why people would be bringing beach chairs because all they had was a long strip of sand. Aaaaahhhh! Definitely, one option is to lie down on the beach on your towel or blanket… or a beach chair! Definitely, you can lounge around comfortably all through out the day under the sun.

The foldable chairs can also be used for other events like picnics or having a barbeque party in your backyard or going to parks or a pool party. So buying one can be a good investment.

Savor the beach!

And oh yes, before I forget...

I’ve had a wonderful time looking for photos for this beach accessories hub. It brought a smile as I recalled how different it was when I was younger. Today there are so many stuff that we can now acquire and use when we go to the beach.

I guess some habits are hard to break though. When I do go home to the province, I still find myself grabbing a shirt and shorts just like everyone else; use the worn out towels, and at the beach, making sure we don’t dirty our towels with sand, sleep sitting up and eat the fresh fruits and food, feel the cool breeze, basking in the warmth of the sun and company of the family and having the best time ever.

That is what is important after all, right? Enjoy your day at the beach!

Great hub! We used to use regular bath towels, too, and sometimes used shorts and T-shirts if we had to. I did get to the beach a few times when I lived in the Philippines, but we were more in Central Luzon, so it wasn't that often.

I LOVE THE BEACH!

dohn121 2 years ago

I had a great time reading your hub as always, ripplemaker. Summer is such a great time...Girls in skimpy clothing, margaritas, the roar of breakers on the beach...It's a great time. I hope one day I can emulate some of your hub-skills. Your hubs show so much experience! You are a bonafide Pro! Funny about your father BTW. I can kind of understand where he's coming from. I love the beach but loathe sand in my car! It's impossible to get it all out!

ripplemaker 2 years ago

Queen of the Lint: In Surigao, we had rocky beaches. It was tough swimming with rocks underneath your feet. But the sea was so clean and blue. I do miss those times. Have you been to Cebu? The beaches here are okay too. Thanks for dropping by and for commenting. :-)

ripplemaker 2 years ago

Advisor: GLAD YOU LIKE THE BEACH! :-)

ripplemaker 2 years ago

Hi Dohn, there is so much to learn when it comes to writing. Thanks for appreciating my work. *blush* It's a good thing that here in the Philippines, esp. in Cebu, we can go to the beach all year round. Yes dad was and still is very particular about those things. And I also learned that it was harder when one is wearing shirts and shorts, the sand would just go right in. It is way so much better with a swimsuit. LOL

Queen of the Lint 2 years ago

No, I never did get to Cebu, but we did go many places around Luzon. Manila traffic was very scary, and I'm a big city girl. Had to go to the beach to unwind after that!

ripplemaker 2 years ago

Queen of the Lint: Hi Beth, Manila traffic can be exhausting. But Cebu is also following (groan) its footsteps. Enjoy your beach days! LOL

VioletSun 2 years ago

You can write about anything, and add a personal touch, which makes the article enjoyable to read. I can picture little Michelle wearing shorts and a shirt instead of a bathing suit. hehe. Phil and I are planning in the future to move near the ocean, so its nice to be reminded of accesories and oh, yes, the glasses and protective lotion.

By the way, I also love sarongs, so feminine and colorful.

Tatjana-Mihaela 2 years ago

He, he, my beach assesoires are only bikini and small towel (I adore rocks, not sand beaches, so do not even need big towel because I like be laying on the (flat) rocks.

This is very cute Hub, Michelle, I like it. When I was younger I needed so many things on the beach. Now only two of them (no I do not even use sunglasses and do not use sunscreen lotion)...

tony0724 2 years ago

I do not look very good In a bikini . I must confess .

ripplemaker 2 years ago

VioletSun: I'm glad you enjoyed this beach accessories hub. :-) If I had a scanner, I would have scanned a photo of me (very skinny then) wearing shorts and shirts on our beach back home. LOL You are planning to move near an ocean? That would be totally cool, wow! I'm sure you would look good in a sarong, Marie. :-)

ripplemaker 2 years ago

Tatjana: Lying on the rocks huh? That sounds very interesting. Hmmm..guess you've learned to simplify your life. :) Good for you! LOL

ripplemaker 2 years ago

Tony: Would you reconsider if you will wear a sarong instead? LOL

Sunglasses, sunblock, beach towels... This hub makes me want to go to the beach ASAP, thanks for such a cheery hub :)

Dottie1 2 years ago

Love the sarongs. They are so colorful. I'm wondering why I never owned one. I've always admired them on other people. Hmmmm, I really want one now. I've got all the other accessories. Yup, it's time to get me a sarong! BTW I just love the idea of giving a sarong as a gift. THANKS for that tip :)

ripplemaker 2 years ago

rb: hahahaha your comment really made me laugh out loud! I see that you don't need a lot of accessories to enjoy the beach! Alright..no problem with that. Just grab your trunks and you are all set! Tee hee

ripplemaker 2 years ago

Princessa: The beach awaits! LOL Glad this hub made you feel cheery and bright! Thanks!

Dottie: Now we know what Daisy and I will give you as a gift--a sarong! LOL

tony0724 2 years ago

What color sarong ?

shamelabboush 2 years ago

Oh my, I love the sarong on a girl. It's designed to blow our heads off :) From the title, I expected to see and enjoy different styles of bikinis but there were none :( Thanks dear.

SweetiePie 2 years ago

I love sarongs and if I ever am able to go to Tahiti I would love to buy a handmade one. Tahitian women used to dress in sarong type dresses, and I always was amazed at all the ways such a simple piece of cloth could be arranged so beautifully. You are very lucky to live near the ocean and to be able to go so often. I do not live to far from the ocean, but the ones in LA are just not as nice as the ones in San Diego and Hawaii.

ripplemaker 2 years ago

Tony: Hmmm let me see...I think the colors of green! What do you think? :D

Shamel: Hahahaha Anyhow, you could always click the links I placed for swimwear (see above), blonde poet and princessa have super nice hubs with lots of good photos with women on bikinis.(wink)

SweetiePie: There are a lot of nice beaches in the Philippines. We certainly are lucky and blessed by this. Sarongs are really nice and amazing huh? More things to add to your bucket list :-) And may all of them come true! Yay!

SweetiePie 2 years ago

I love the idea of the bucket list, and I hope both you and I can do everything we put on our respective lists. I have a beautiful picture of a Philippine beach on my tropical calendar, and I must say it is the closest thing to paradise :).

tony0724 2 years ago

Green might work !

ripplemaker 2 years ago

Tony: Okay enjoy it then! LOL

SweetiePie: I hope so too! Maybe someday you can come over and visit the Philippines! :D

Gennifer 2 years ago

Great hub! Here it's possible to find all necessary accessories. I liked most of all sun glasses (I adore them and have a quite large collection). I'm looking forward for your new hubs! ;)

Gennifer: A collection of sunglasses?! Cool..thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment. Enjoy the sun! :D

SweetiePie 2 years ago

I would love to go the the Philippines :). Hopefully I can one day.

compu-smart 2 years ago

Its a shame that most people have to take a plane or drive so far just to get to the nearest beach which once there is very well worth it...ferom what i can remember! lol

Dottie1 2 years ago

Yippee, Yippee, Yippee, a sorong! I had to laugh at your response to my comment. Sorry I'm so late in coming back; better late than never I guess!

Cheekygirl 2 years ago

Wow,

I loved this hub! This is cool! Last year I went wih my half-asian girlfriend to a place called Boracay! You no doubt know this place! I rate it as brilliant, it has everything I could want, but beach accessories need places that sell or offer them! I found the walk thru D'Mall too long from our hotel, but I wish I'd brought a bucket of suntan lotion! We ran out, we used so much! (I'm a Brit, and still got cooked!) How about a hub on the perfect bikini????

This should be bookmarked! Well done! I love this hub! : )

ripplemaker 2 years ago

Cheekygirl: You went to Boracay? Yes, that's a great place to stay. I remember when we went there, we even had some of the beach accessories (necklace and bracelet) custom made while we waited. Okay, next time you go there, bring lots and lots of suntan lotion then. LOL Many thanks for coming over! :)

Dottie1 2 years ago

Hahahahaha, yipeeeeeeee, I got a present in the mail today that I absolutely loooove! {BIG HUG} yipeeeeeeeee.... thanks soooo much Michelle and Daisy. Off to watch the video and practice tying myself up, hehe...

ps-my beach accessories are now complete :)

ripplemaker 2 years ago

Hi Dottie, got your email and I am so glad the package finally arrived ... safe and secure in your arms. I am glad you love the gift! LOL And yes, I want to see the photos when you do get to take them! Yes, practice, practice, practice hahahahahahha

TINA V 2 years ago

I went to Cebu when I was still young. We went to a beach resort that was so amazing. We then travelled by plane going to Bohol. The ideas you mentioned are really great for summer. I like all the pictures. Can you also write something about the Chocolate Hills? Those were just the days of my fond memories.

Happy holidays!

ripplemaker 2 years ago

One of these days I will write about Bohol heheheh thanks Tina. Do drop by Cebu again and visit the beaches. Nice to know you had fun. :) Take care and Happy Holidays to you too.

Maria Cole 22 months ago

Did anyone mention a tan on this one yet? I know we all go to the beach to get a tan but I feel like you need to bring a pre-tan tan before you get the real deal!

teaches12345 4 months ago

This makes me want to go to the beach. I live 20 minutes from the ocean and don't get there often enough. I see all kinds of beach wear but your suggestions should be taken seriously! Although I don't blame you for still wearing shorts and a t-shirt when back home. Good hub!
