How to Stay Positive in Life: How to Stay Positive and Motivated
76Staying positive in a negative world can be challenging most especially when bad news roll in with the stormy waves of life. Financial crisis, disease, divorce, broken families, betrayal, bankruptcy, loneliness hit you right smack in your face making your stomach churn and cringe.
I remember those moments in my life when I was in my early twenties and despair was one of my constant companions. There were moments I would close my eyes and would yearn to never open them again. Can life just go away? But you open your eyes eventually and you are still breathing. And you sigh with a mixture of “not again” and perhaps deep down, well, I have to admit that there was also a tinge of “glad to be still alive” feeling.
It’s ironic huh? But then that’s the beauty of the human spirit. In the end, the knowing comes that the best and the most magnificent part of you wants to live and breathe and be.
The Strategies: Staying Positive Amidst Negativity
All Is Okay!
Trust: Expect the Best
Trust is one of the basic strategies in staying positive. Trusting in the Divine, the Source, God or whatever you want to call it is staying in alignment; and when you are connected to your divinity, you trust, because you know that all is well.
Sometimes when it rains, it pours. There are days when I arrive in our preschool and I am greeted with a problem. “There is no water.” And then more problems come, “A parent wants to talk to you. She has a complaint.” A call comes in, “We regret to inform you but…” and another teacher approaches you, “I need to be absent today…”
I would truly end up looking at the heavens, taking long deep breaths and saying aloud to myself, “It’s okay! I fully trust that solutions will come and we will find a way to fix all these problems.” So you do everything. You plan. You call the plumber. You talk to the parent. You allow the teacher to take a leave. And expect the best to happen.
Indeed, it does.
Trust Affirmation
I trust that I will be divinely guided and protected today.
I trust that all my needs will be met today and that the pure desires of my heart will manifest today.
I trust that the best thing will happen today and trust the loving presence of Source will sustain me.
Gratitude: Appreciate Everything
What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you wake up in the morning? Interestingly, many of our thoughts lead us to what we must do, facing our problems in our heads and concocting a plan to solve this and that!
To stay positive, begin your day with a gratitude rampage. This is the best way to attune yourself to the goodness and beauty that lies all around you. Take a deep lovely breath and be grateful that you are alive! Stand up and stretch those arms up in the air and appreciate that you can move and walk around. Go outside and breathe in the fresh air and listen to the sounds of life and be thankful for all that you have and all that you are.
This alone can start your day in a positive mood. Then move about your day, choosing to appreciate rather than criticize. The more things you notice and are grateful about, the more bountiful blessings come your way.
Gratitude Affirmation
I am so grateful to be alive and for every gift and blessing that I have.
I am grateful for all the experiences that I have and for the lessons learned.
I am grateful that every moment is an opportunity I can use to live my life the way I want to live.
I'm learning how to put icing on the cake and having a grand time doing it!
Purpose: Live a Meaningful Life
A friend of mine calls me up. She is in despair. She hates her work and doesn’t know what to do with her life. She wants to get married and have a family. But she hasn’t found the right guy yet. So she waits and waits in despair.
Many of us resonate with this story at one point in our lives. If your life is empty and meaningless, you will find out that you need a purpose, a vision and meaning. If you are feeling this way right now, don’t just mope around and lament that life is not going well for you. Find that which gives you joy. Follow your bliss. And it all starts with self-awareness. Learn about yourself. Write down your dreams. Go on a retreat. Meditate. Read books. Talk with a friend. Find your purpose and live a meaningful life. This will truly help you stay positive as you do the things you are passionate about.
Purpose Affirmation
I am learning about myself and my purpose in life.
I am excited to do the things I truly want to do.
I am living the life of my dreams.

Love: Express and Be Love in All Forms
I became an aunt again. My brother and his wife just recently had a new baby boy. It never fails to astound me that I can actually sit beside the crib and just stare at the baby sleeping –sometimes for half an hour to an hour. And I would giggle silently as he would smile in his sleep. He looked so adorable with his tiny fists curled up beside his face. It made me realized that pure love, unconditional love is like this. And it is just so awesome.
To stay positive in this world, we need to acknowledge something truly beautiful and magnificent. We are love expressed. Yes, you, me – we are all love! And the more we recognize this, the more we are encouraged to bring out the best in ourselves.
Love is then recognized everywhere. It is but natural. The more you see love within you, the more love you see outside of you. The more love you have for yourself, the more love you can give to others.
Be love in all forms…expressed with compassion, tenderness and care. Love heals and helps you truly live a positive life.
Love Affirmations
I am love.
I am love expressed.
I am love manifested.
Choice: Use the Power of Choice with Full Awareness
I know of one boy who had a broken family to start with. He had to leave home and fend for himself. He worked in different places until he ended up working with us. I see him everyday and so I know him well. Life has been a tough ride for him. And yet he has the determination and drive and motivation to work hard. He told us he wanted to continue his education. We said 'yes' even if it meant we had to adjust his duties at work. So he goes to a public school starting late in the afternoon until around 9 in the evening, while during the day he works for us. He is with our preschool for three years now; and next week, he will graduate with his elementary education and moving on to secondary education by next school year.
I am so proud of him. And I learn much from his attitude and perspective. You see it is so easy to fall into the pits of despair and be miserable and say 'I am too old to study again.' (He was around 19 when he started studying Grade 3 again.) But he chose the path that brings him to a positive place. He chose to trust and be grateful. He chose to love himself by giving himself a chance. And so in the end, it all boils down to our choice.
Choice Affirmations
I delight in the knowledge that I have the power to choose.
I choose hope.
I choose trust.
I choose wisdom.
I choose love.
I choose life.
Choose wisely. Choose well. Choose every moment of everyday to be positive, to be grateful, and to be love expressed. Life is beautiful and so are you.

This is something I needed to read today. Experiencing a very sad and difficult business financial challenge that is creating a rift in family. I am proud however, I am calm at the same time, but a sad calm. Thank you for writing this!
Good article, gives positive thinking to everyone.
What an inspiration you are, Michelle! I hope that everyone who's in the dumps and need a bit of affirmation in the station of their lives comes over here to read this. There's so much positivity in your writing. This was simply amazing and uplifting to read! Thank you!

Dohn: Michelle is an angel of inspiration and healing! This hub really, really helped me! I am deeply grateful for the beauty of the spirit I find in others such as Michelle, and others. We are all connected!
Michelle. I Love the step by step process you share, the detail of what it looks like. Mostly I like the positive affirmations for each step to help achieve it. Some of these affirmations are posted around my house, I will be adding the others. My home is becoming one huge post-it-note....Fantastic for keeping positive with so many positive signs to read at every turn. Thank You for the fantastic signs to continue keeping the positive energy flowing not only here but for everyone around the world as they read your inspiration! Thanks as always....what a bright light you are in this world
Well put... We all need to be reminded to stay positive... You reminded us in this very nice manner... I will be passing it along... Thanks again...
Your writing is so convincing because it comes out of your personal experience and people can easily identify with it and follow you in their process. Well done.
Just one thing: Don't say "I am too old to study again." You are never too old, you need to study, learn, grow and heal your whole life...
I guess you read my hub "Remaining positive within a negative environment." Porbably not, because nobody had made a comment there.
I just read my own hub and I'm surprised how good it is ;-)
You will like it, even there is a critical aspect in it...
This is a wonderful hub and you are a great inspiration. Thank you so much.
Lovely hub. Thank you
Namaste

You did an excellent job writing this one. I needed this. My attitude was in need of a check up. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I printed the trust affirmation. It is lovely. Thanks!

terrific moving hub thanks
ripplemaker-I am grateful for writers such as yourself that remind me of the real joy that can be found in this world. This is the second Hub about gratitude I have read today-perhaps it's catching!
Thank you.
Hey, Michelle: Thanks for the prayers, will do the same for you by sending positive loving, energy. Can't jabber about this in Facebook, wouldn't be the right place, but glad we connected. :) Off to a nice day of fresh air and peace.
I like the way you're thinking, and thanks for these tips
I really, really, really enjoyed this one, ripple maker! You are doing an excellent job of making ripples here on HP and I feel it! Love this excellent hub!!!!
Hi Ripplemaker.
Thank you for sharing, it is best to be positive seeing in your mind the results you want and believing you will achieve them will make it happen.
Well written and great affirmations
This has just become my favorite hub! Each of the keys you highlighted are so instrumental. The TRUST aspect is something that I find so important (as well as all the rest) and when used in conjunction with gratitude, it can change even the worst mood into a place of optimism.
AWESOME, very valuable hub!
Wonderful, "bookmark-able" hub! I love the affirmations. Thanks so much for sharing!
That's a wonderful, positive and self-motivating words you have given to the hub.Keep it up.I hope you would continue in this service and may "The Almighty God" be with you and inspire you and your family so that many souls may prosper just by reading your wonderful words.
Great hub, and so true. actually it "transpires" from your words that you follow what you preach, so to say. :)
Rated and stumbled, and if you like I'll put a link here from my hub on affirmation. Well done ripplemaker. :)
What a wonderful hub. It's put me in a great mood already and it's only nine in the morning! Everything you say is true; often we can determine our own happiness just by adopting the right perspective.
very good points. I am glad I read this as sometimes we forget. I like the category on "purpose". It is always good to help and then see a smile of appreciation on a strangers face
Excellent ripplemaker! In the circles I run in we call these affirmations "speaking life to your bones"! That comes from Proverbs 16:24: Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
A wonderful hub and one I very badly needed to read right now. Thank you. Have book marked for further use, I need to read this lots!
Ah! Michelle Joy....
What a beautiful and inspiring hub! You´ve just made my day, you know that? Sometimes, trying to carry the world on your shoulders is an impossible task. Atlas was only one. But I have learned we can put our fingers together and provide our lifting share...Thank you! Thank you for sharing so very much!
A million thumbs up!
warmest regards and infinite blessing, dearest Michelle Joy,
Al
Congratulations to Richard. I've added a link here to both my hubs on Positive Affirmations and the Law of Attraction. Have a great day!
Very nice Hub. Keep 'em coming!
I'm a firm believer in positive aattitude and Affirmations. Was fortunate to have had parents with strong positive attitudes and an eye to healthful living, even though for them it wasn't all that easy.
I attribute an active healthy life in my later years to the principles and attitudes I learned growing up and saw fit to maintain, in fact!
I intend to bookmark your excellent hub for reading again - and perhaps for referring to others, if that's all right! I must read more of your hubs! Thank you!!
This is a beautiful hub.
That's really good info, thanks for sharing. Very good piece of writing.
Great Hub Michelle! I remember those terrible twenties as well; full of worry, doom and gloom. Until I read the book You Can if You Think You Can, in which I learned that I had a choice of thinking positively or negatively. Changed my whole outlook on life. :)
Love your affirmations, I'm bookmarking this hub for those days that one needs a quick dose of positive. Thanks for sharing. Namaste!
Michelle, this hub is absolutely beautiful, right on target. As you know from our exchange of emails I have watched a 6 week series on healing from the 'Gospel Truth' and today began a new series on 'Staying Positive in a Negative World'. I remember seeing that you wrote this hub and had to come pay a visit.
What I read in your hub Michelle, and I'll repeat, is right on target.
The main focus in todays series, is like you said in this hub, we MUST encourage ourselves, especially when our experiences look bleak, there is hope and it is real... BUT we must NOT let ourselves fall into discouragement or be afraid because this is exactly where we can block the power to flow in and when we do we wonder why nothing is working for us, that our prayers go unanswered.
This is a spiritual law, DO NOT fall in despair BUT encourage yourself.
Encouragement will not come accidently, it must be on purpose, in other words, in is up to us to make that choice and keep practicing, it will become easier, and THEN you will find more prayer being answered.
Faith is the action or the key that sets the belief in motion, belief without faith does not work (another law). Making the choice to encourage oneself is the faith, the key that sets your dreams in motion whatever that may be, your health, finances, etc. This by the way, is within the 'Will of God' for all of us, not just some, BUT for all to prosper and be healthy.
Wow this will help me a lot!
Nice Hub Ripplemaker!!!...im your fan!!
michelle...another one of OUR stories...lol!! it is so so beautiful...I LOVE IT!! thank you so much for writing the most amazing hubs. blessings...
This was great to read this morning. I am in my twenties and I can definitely relate to feeling despair. It seems I can flip flop from pure happiness to quarter life crisis all in the same week! Thanks for an uplifting read!
