Steps to Success in Three Simple Steps
69
The Important Questions
I believe before you start taking steps to success, you have to answer these very important questions.
What do you really want from life? Do you have goals? Are you very certain what are the dreams you want to come true?
What is your definition of success? How do you picture a success life to be?
If you haven't really thought about what you wanted for your life, then maybe now is the best time to start. Find a quiet relaxing spot, bring a pen and a paper or a laptop, or a tape recorder. Start discovering. Start imagining. Don't stop yourself short. Just write it down. Don't think how you are going to achieve. Just let your thoughts soar. Be free to express all the things that you really want.
Here are the areas that you might want to ponder upon:
Family, Work or Career, Spiritual, Financial, Emotional, Physical, Intellectual
Step 1: Getting Clear About What You Really Want
Yes, the first step to success is to know what is it that you really want. Why do you think many of us never reach our dreams? Possibly because we are not really clear about what we want. Or if we already know what we want, there is a part of us that do not really believe that we have the capacity to fulfill our dreams.
So we grope in the dark and we wander aimlessly in one path and in the middle suddenly switch paths, thinking that the other path is a better one. We do try to achieve our dreams and at the first sign of difficulty, we hesitate and drop the goal and then look for another one.
On Getting Clear:
1. Write down your goals and read them everyday.
2. Make visual aids. Create a "Dream Book." Cut pictures of the things that you want - your dream house, your ideal weight, etc...
3. Be clear about your reasons for wanting those dreams. What's your burning desire? What are the rewards, benefits, advantages if you achieve a certain goal?
Step 2: Write an Action Plan
With a clear goal in mind, the next step to success is to write a plan. What are the steps and measures you need to do to achieve your goal? The Action Plan is your guide to your way to success.
Want to lose weight? Be specific about your plan. For instance, how many times should you exercise in a week. What's your diet like? How much sleep do you need?
Want peace of mind? How many minutes a day would you devote to meditating or prayer?
Want to have your own business? Should you study further? Do research on various business opportunities? Should you save or get a loan? What about talking to those who are successful businessmen and learn from them?
Having an action plan with specific goals and even target deadlines will certainly make the path ahead clearer.
Step 3: Just Do It
After the goals have been set and the plans made, the next important step to success is to take action. Sometimes we get lost in the planning or we have made such beautiful plans, but we never really get around to doing it.
Oftentimes the best way is to just do it! Most who have led successful lives are doers. They have decided that the way to success is to take action. And so can you!

Good ideas to get people thinking about their lives and what they want.
Ripple,
As always simplicity is the key. These steps are basic, but they are often over looked. Great insights to follow. Thank you.
Yes you are so right...it all takes time so you can't rush it too much....and it is wise to Just do It...but don't exspect miracles either...hard work and patience plays a big part in the final reward....Love God first..He will guide you all the way..God Bless you ripplemaker, you are a doll G-Ma :o) hugs...and HAPPY EASTER
Uh-oh, Teacher Michelle... I'm guilty of never getting around to the "doing" part. Hehe! :p Such grand plans that either never materialize or never get finished. Take my website on our Bohol trip, for example. It's been 5 months and I haven't finished it yet. :p
great info
True, many successful people prove the steps to be effective.
Great hub. Thanks for sharing this.
great hub u make :) nice u teach about that
Here I have been thinking all a long you are a mathemeatical brain. Now i find you are profound in the way of measuring Life steps.
This is a great hub and one that should be put into all scholl curriculums
from year one.
Excvellent advice and want to hear more.
thank you
I must be backwards, (This has gotten me in more trouble then I care to admit)
If an idea hits me I just do, then I analyze and write a follow-up plan of what or how I should have done...I always seem to have perfect hindsight.
Great hub Ripplemaker regards Zsuzsy
Great Hub Ripplemaker, looks easy from the outside but needs a lot of dedication. Only if they perservere they can attain success. Thanks.
Great hub full of simple ideas but powerful in scope. I enjoy your ability to downsize such a broad topic and list out for us the basics. As with everything else in life discipline is key. This list will surely get us going in the right direction. Thanks again.
I'm there! Loved the info. I have written articles about happiness and goal reaching with similar thoughts to you....see, great minds think alike? We stray from basics, thinking things are harder than they truly are. thanks for bringing us back to the beginning, We benefit from a map, yes? Marisue
Ripplemaker,
Brian Tracy (author and speaker) adds a little twist to "just do it" that I have found works very well. "I do it now" Somehow that little bit extra of now seems to motivate me to, well, just do it.
Your 3rd point is probably what stops many from achieving their successes. Talk is cheap.. many talk about what they want from life, but never put their words to action.
Thanks for your hub.
Cheers.
Excellent work, Michelle! I am going to bookmark this one. I can get through steps 1 and 2. Just need to go through step 3! :-)
Nice, dreams and ambitions are what life should be all about, not a struggle of nothingness, then death.
ripplemaker,
Great Hub! Regardless of where we are in life... there is always somewhere else to go.
I really like your simple plan here. It can be reviewed at whatever place you are in life...
By writing down our thoughts, plans and dreams, we make ourselves accountable to self, as well - it is also a way of measuring our accomplishments along the way.

The 'doing the doing' is where most people come unstuck. No matter what how many dreams you have or how many plans you make, if you don't DO anything, you will never achieve anything. Great advice.
Excellent advice, Ripplemaker! :)
Execellent
GOOD JOB !!!
Inspiring, as usual!
Great hub! Too many of us sit around and wait for life to happen to us. We need to take control and make our life what we want it to be! Thanks!
Very good advice, it is not unusual not to know what we really want. It requires a bit of thought, but once we are clear about our goals, no one will stop you from achieving them!
Great write. Talking about doing something and doing it seems to be the difference between success and well you know! Most people never get started.
I totally agree with you about writting down you goals. I have an online business that helps people save money through group buying power and one of the perks is that you can make a lot of money just by showing people how to save money. They also have a marketing plan that pays very well and one of the things that helped me to have success with the company is that I made what I call a dream board. Everyday when I would tell myself that I didn't feel like showing anyone the online business today, I would just look over at my dream board and that gave me the desire to continue on. Because of this dream board, I am soaring with a company that not only do I love, but it is very rewarding seeing other people grow in the business as well. I gave you a thumbs up. Hope you do the same for me. I will look forward to reading your other hubs. drummer boy
Very inspirational hub ripplemaker!! You have certainly caused some ripples to flow in my mind to help with success we all strive for in life ;)
Thankyou ;)
This is an enjoyable hub and I like the idea of writing down your plans to gain insight as to what you truly want in life. Another thing I find that helps is drawing a picture of your dream, which may sound cheesy, but I find it actually works.
ripplemaker,
I think a lot olf people lose enthusiasm when they get to the just do it part, but you offer inspiration. Good hub. If you get the chance, check out some of my hubs.

Yes, yes and yes- nicely and succinctly put!
Nice and simple -great work. Find out why, work out how and then do it! Life isn't hard, we just try to make it that way!
hello ripplemaker, surprise! reading this hub reminds me of how we had to constantly encourage each other to take the next step and now we're experiencing the benefits of the 3-step process. i'm honored to be journeying with you to reach greater heights! God bless you more!
That getting "really clear on what you want" part. That's the stage I'm at right now as I transition from one path (or direction) into unknown territory--ready for a change. Nicely said!
It rally is indeed a great ripple you are making :)
This is a very inspirational hub to read again and again. I know you are busy with other commitments outside of Hubpages, but maybe when you have more time this hub would make a good series of hubs :).
Our future life will be the result of our actions taken today.
Warm regards from Belgium,
Steve
Thank you. Now, I have to just do it!!!!
I once knew a great dentist who left for other pastures.
I always thought she missed her calling. You obviously have the ability to attract attention here in HubPages.
Great job of being a Hub Magnet? You're like the Chicago O"Hare of HubPages!
Thanks for this, Ripplemaker. Another way to make goals powerful in step one, is to ask What would the result look like if I actually achieved it, or created it. Crafting a vision of your goal makes it much clearer. I have my clients write out their vision of desired results, then stand up, and read them out loud to themselves. If they feel emotion, or get choked up, or the hair on the back of their neck stands up, they'll know it's powerful. If not, think it through and rewrite it until the emotion comes. Passionate goals sustain action!
What an inspiring article. I love your way of looking at life.
That does seem pretty simple.
Interesting hub. I like the second step. We must have to write down what we think.
Thank you ms Ripplemaker,
Great hub. It is nice to see hub that jump starts my thinking process.
Certainly success doesn't just come at your doorstep. It depends on you on how you propel your life to where you want to be. At times you have to be assertive and aggressive to achieve what you want in life. Those who are laidback might just wait luck to be knocking at their door which is so impossible to happen without having action plans to drive your future on a succesful state.
I salute you ripplemaker, you've gained a lot of followers in hubpages...
Always great to start the day with an inspirational HUB thanks Ripplemaker!
Your article will definitely be a morale booster to everyone.
